Which Deployment Method Is Right for You?

Choosing the right deployment method for your unified communications system is crucial to ensure seamless communication and collaboration within your organization. There are several options available, each with its own advantages and considerations.

Cloud-Based Deployment:

If you’re looking for a flexible and cost-effective option, a cloud-based deployment might be the perfect fit. With this approach, your unified communications system is hosted and managed by a third-party service provider. This eliminates the need for on-site hardware and software maintenance, freeing up your IT resources to focus on other strategic initiatives.

Cloud-based deployments offer scalability, allowing you to easily add or remove users as needed. They also provide high availability and disaster recovery options, ensuring that your communications are always accessible even in the event of unexpected disruptions.

Additionally, cloud-based deployments offer enhanced mobility and accessibility. Your communications can be managed and stored in the cloud, allowing your team to access them from any device at any time, whether they’re in the office or on the go. This level of flexibility can greatly improve workforce productivity and collaboration.

It’s important to note that while cloud-based deployments offer numerous benefits, they may not be suitable for every organization. Factors such as data security requirements, network reliability, and compliance regulations should be carefully considered when deciding on a deployment method.

Ultimately, the decision between on-premises and cloud-based deployment for unified communications depends on several factors specific to your organization’s needs and priorities.

If customization, security, and control over your communications system are of utmost importance, then an on-premises deployment may be the best choice. This allows you to have complete ownership and management of the hardware and software within your premises, ensuring maximum control over customization and security measures. However, it is important to consider the significant upfront investment and ongoing maintenance that come with this option.

Hybrid Deployment:

If you want the control of an on-premises deployment and the flexibility of a cloud-based solution – then a hybrid deployment may be the ideal choice for your organization. With a hybrid deployment, you can leverage the benefits of both options to create a customized and scalable unified communications system.

By combining on-premises infrastructure with cloud-based services, you can have greater control over sensitive data and security measures while also enjoying the advantages of mobility and accessibility. This allows you to keep critical communications on-site while utilizing the cloud for non-sensitive data or when additional resources are needed.

A hybrid deployment offers a flexible and adaptable solution for organizations seeking a balance between control and scalability. With this approach, you can strategically allocate resources and customize your unified communications system to meet your specific needs.

One of the key advantages of a hybrid deployment is the ability to maintain control over sensitive data. By keeping critical communications on-premises, you can ensure that sensitive information remains within your organization’s secure infrastructure. This is particularly important for industries with strict compliance regulations or those that handle confidential customer data.

At the same time, a hybrid deployment also provides the flexibility and scalability that cloud-based solutions offer. By utilizing the cloud for non-sensitive data or when additional resources are needed, organizations can easily adapt to changing demands and scale their unified communications system accordingly.

Another benefit of a hybrid deployment is the ability to customize your unified communications system to meet your specific needs. With this approach, you have the freedom to choose which components you want to manage on-premises and which ones you want to leverage from the cloud. This allows for a tailored solution that aligns with your organization’s requirements and objectives.

Furthermore, the same time, a hybrid deployment allows you to take advantage of the cloud’s flexibility and scalability hybrid deployment offers the ability to seamlessly integrate with existing infrastructure

Unified Communications Gartner Glossary

Gartner Glossary

Unified communications as a service (UCaaS) is a cloud-delivered unified communications model that supports six communications functions:

  • Enterprise telephony
  • Meetings (audio/video/web conferencing)
  • Unified Messaging
  • Instant messaging and presence (personal and team)
  • Mobility
  • Communications-enabled business processes

UCaaS infrastructure is owned, operated, maintained and delivered by the provider. Typical characteristics include multitenancy (including tenant partitions residing on shared UC infrastructure, such as data centers, racks, compute, network, common equipment and blades) and self-service web portals for provisioning, management and performance/usage reporting. The provider delivers applications from a common platform and licenses the service for a monthly, recurring, subscription charge.
